Big Appliance Purchase ~ LG Refrigerator

We've known for a few months now that our ‘frig was on its way out… But, just like every other big purchase we make we've been putting it off. The time came when the hubby poured cottage cheese instead of milk in his coffee Thursday morning… (Ewe…) Either we needed to start using the snow to keep our perishable's cold or go buy a new refrigerator. I'm thrifty and sometimes just down-right cheap but I'm not quite ready to go Amish just yet.

After discussing our options and deciding that we didn't want a used refrigerator we set our budget. We took ONLY our budgeted amount of cash with us and left the checkbook and check card at home.

Did you know…?
Ice Makers are an add on and cost around $50 more (varies per model)
No Spill Shelves are an add on and cost around $100 more (varies per model)

First stop… Bessecker & Coss…
We found nothing at Bessecker & Coss that really jumped out at us... but took note of the lowest priced refrigerator at $750.

On to K-Mart (Sears) we went...
While K-Mart (Sears) had a very budget friendly refrigerator at $390.00 the capacity was less than desirable.

Next up… the Home Depot.
We found a refrigerator that we were interested in ~ a PERFECT FIT for the space we were filling. The capacity was larger than I hoped for (a plus!!) and it had adjustable door shelves... I asked the salesman to check their stock for that model without an ice maker. They didn't have one... I was NOT paying for an icemaker. We told him that we WOULD be buying a refrigerator from someone today... whether it was Home Depot or another store we were taking home a new refrigerator but I WAS NOT PAYING FOR AN ICEMAKER. We waited while the salesman called the manager. The manager was not willing to give us $50 off the refrigerator… so, we left.

After we were in the truck I looked at Ron and said I really want that refrigerator but there isn’t any sense in paying for an ice maker that we’ll never use… I’m calling the manager myself. So, I did and this is what I said…

Hi, my husband and I were just there looking at refrigerator’s… we found one that’s perfect and I would love to take it home BUT, it has an ice maker and I can’t see paying for an ice maker that we’re never going to use. You don’t have the same model in stock that comes without an ice maker… We are buying a refrigerator today, from someone… and right now… we’re headed back to K-Mart BUT I wanted to talk to you personally and be sure that you understood why we were asking for an additional $50 off.

The manager asked me what the original price was… what the sale price was and what we were willing to pay (before tax)… Then she said come back and we’ll have it waiting for you at the service desk.  Hot Diggity Dog... and we were on our way... back to Home Depot.

I’ve done my research and have found that the price we paid was the absolute lowest price we could have paid (and then even lower yet) for our particular model… YIPPEE!

LG Model Number LBC22520SW (With an Ice Maker)

• The adjustable door shelves are awesome! I’ve got the “Design a Door Bins” situated perfectly to suit our needs. PLUS they’re large enough to hold gallon jugs! I could go on and on about the space in the door shelves… Our old refrigerator didn’t have nearly enough door shelf space to hold all our condiments but this one has plenty of room and then some!

• The capacity is 22.4 Cubic Feet ~ HUGE in comparison to our beat up broken down old refrigerator.

• I like that the freezer is on the bottom. Simply because everything in the refrigerator is at eye level.

• The storage rack in the freezer slides out for easy access.

• The refrigerator beeps if the door is ajar… if something prevents the door from shutting all the way… the alarm will let you know!

• Energy Star Qualified ~ Estimated yearly operating cost = $50… I can’t wait to see the difference in my electric bill! Our old refrigerator never stopped running… RG&E just may have to pay me!

• Our old ‘frig… you could hear humming from another room… this ‘frig… you have to get right up next to it just to “double check”… hee hee ~ I bet it has something to do with the LoDecibel Quiet Operation feature.

• The controls to adjust the temperature are electronic… that’s a change for us… compared to the old “dial” temperature adjusters… we now have a refrigerator that’s in the electronic age! WOO HOO!

I am 110% satisfied with our new LG Refrigerator… and Ron's favorite thing about it... It keeps the milk cold... Life's Good!
